Harry
"Uncle Harry" Kamehaiku
1928-1995

Aloha!
Welcome to "Halau Ho'oheno Aloha!"

This group was formerly called "Ha'Aheo Dance Troupe" which was formed in the mid-70's by a group of Hawaiian friends in El Paso, Texas.

Being that El Paso is the home of Fort Bliss, many of our dancers have come and gone. But we still have four of our original dancers.

In November of 1996, the name was changed to "Halau Ho'oheno Aloha", which means "Cherished One." The change was made in memory of Harry "Uncle Harry" Kamehaiku, who was one of the original leaders and a mentor to many of the dancers.

Uncle Harry, a native of Waiakea-Kai, Hilo, Hawaii, was born on January 22, 1928. He passed away on November 11, 1995 in
El Paso, Texas. He was a long-time resident of El Paso and retired in El Paso from the U.S. Army in February 1973 with over 26 years of service and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.

He was active in preserving the Hawaiian culture in El Paso and spreading of the "Aloha" spirit among fellow Hawaiians and
El Pasoans. He played a vital part with the "Ha'aheo Dance Troupe."

He is surely missed by those who have come to know and love him.
